In 1944, George Stinney Jr., a teenager from South Carolina, was accused of murdering two white girls. He was interrogated without a lawyer, without his parents present, and tried by an all-white jury. His trial lasted just a few hours. He was convicted in a single day — and executed in the electric chair only weeks later.
