The Sugar Land 95 | Full Documentary

In 2018, construction crews breaking ground on a new school in Sugar Land, Texas made a discovery that would force an entire city — and an entire country — to confront a buried chapter of American history. The remains of 95 African Americans, now known as the Sugar Land 95, were found in unmarked graves on what was once one of the largest convict leasing plantations in the post-Civil War South.

This is the story of how slavery never really ended — it just changed its name. How Black men and boys (and one woman) were arrested for crimes like loitering and unemployment, handed to plantation owners for $3 a month, and worked until their bones gave out. How one man named Reginald Moore spent 20 years trying to tell the world what was buried under that Texas soil — and how nobody listened until a backhoe proved him right.
